O.C.D.? Yes. Cheap? More like 'thrifty'. Handy? Clever? Definitely!

One thing you will get to know about me is that I am a borderline OCD-er (though not worthy of my own A&E reality television show) when it comes to organization and labeling. My beloved Daddy always said, "Everything has a place!" - which was his reflex response whenever I would lose or misplace something. He believed that (1) everything has a proper place to be stored; (2) 'it' should always be immediately put (and kept) in said proper place; and (3) as such, nothing would ever get lost. Well, DUH! But that is always easier said then done!

Anyway, I digress. I am still living amongst boxes of "stuff" that has yet to be unpacked from when I moved into this house. I'm afraid my neighbors think that I am a hoarder (probably worthy of an A&E reality show but minus the rotting food and cat poop - ew!) when they view my garage and back-back rooms. I'm determined to get organized, minimize, donate and just generally "weed" out a bunch of "stuff".

I'm a confessed (though recovering) shoe lover and have a closet dedicated to just shoes. I've stored them in plastic regular "CS shoe boxes" and "CS large shoe boxes" (for my platform shoes and boots) that I purchased (in bulk) from the Container Store. I throw away the cardboard shoe boxes (and toss them in the recycle bin) whenever I buy new shoes because, in true OCD style, the boxes aren't always uniform in size... which drives me nuts. Only problem with this is that I can't easily tell which shoes are in which boxes which can waste precious minutes in the morning when I'm (always) running late to work. My goal is to put color pictures on the front of each of the boxes so that I can easily see what is in them - but that is a whole other project that I haven't had time to do yet.

Again, I digress. I recently went on a little shopping spree at Nordstrom's which caused me to need more room in the shoe closet. When trying to figure out how to resolve the situation (other than returning the shoes, of course!), I realized that my boots were taking up way too many boxes and probably getting bent/wrinkled needlessly. SO... 'to kill two birds with one stone', I decided to hang my boots on the unused hanging rod. I searched online for 'boot hangers' (didn't know there was really such a thing) and sure enough - there is such a thing, but they want $20 (plus shipping) for only THREE hangers or these for $9.99 for ONE! WTH?!

To know me is to know that (1) this is a ridiculous price for something so simple, and (2) I will improvise and find a cheaper, but comparable solution.

And so I found these little clips - and they work GREAT! For only $0.50 a piece (or a dollar per pair) - they work like a champ. And I love the stainless steel look! I also purchased a couple of pieces of white (don't get colored or it might stain any lighter color boots) felt cheaply from my local Micheal's store and cut out little squares so that the clips don't embed impressions on to the boots.

Now, all my boots are hanging neatly and visibly in my closet AND I have more storage space for my recently footwear splurges. Win - Win! Yay me!

New Year, New Everything! (Oh, why the hell not be cliche?)

Welcome to my new blog! I've been wanting to start a blog for years and friends have encouraged me all along and with the start of the new decade, I decided why the hell not? I think the form of this blog with be rather form-less in that it is going to be mindless musings and random thoughts about anything and everything from design, events, literature, fashion, projects etc. Basically, whatever floats my boat! I hope to enjoy this journey... and that you do to. I won't promise to not embarrass myself, but at least I will always be JUST ME!
